Office Staff

The Seadrift office staff is committed to excellence, and we strive to support members in every aspect of their ownership experience.

Jean Gould — Community Manager

Jean's connection to Stinson Beach began long before she became an employee at Seadrift. It was a cherished place for family adventures and a source of deep friendship. Jean has dedicated her diverse career to service, volunteering as an EMT, managing global health and education programs for Save the Children, and leading social-emotional learning in schools. Today, her work at Seadrift brings all of these passions together, adding a new environmental and political dimension to her lifelong commitment to giving back.

Originally from a small farm outside Baltimore, Jean's rural upbringing instilled in her a strong work ethic. She studied anthropology and Russian at Johns Hopkins before earning her MBA with distinctions at Yale, where she met her husband, Jeff. While a stint as an international analyst at the New York Stock Exchange was exhilarating, Jean found it was not her true calling and soon returned to the non-profit sector where she found greater fulfillment.

After years of living abroad, Jean and Jeff settled in the Bay Area to raise their family. While Jeff pursued a career in corporate law, Jean’s next professional chapter in education, Directing Social Emotional Learning Programs and teaching in the classroom, was a natural fit, allowing her to find fulfillment in helping students thrive while also being present for her own children. Now living in Portola Valley, the natural environment continues to nurture her soul. On her days off, Jean connects with her roots by spending time in her garden, just as she did in her childhood. She also loves hiking, cooking, and enjoying the arts with her family and friends.

Jean joined Seadrift in 2023.

Heidi Smith — Office Manager, Bookkeeper

Heidi is Seadrift’s Office Manager and Bookkeeper with nearly two decades of keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes. Originally from Southern California, Heidi moved to Marin in 1988 and found her way to beautiful Stinson Beach in 2007. Since then, Heidi has become a steady presence in both the community and the office, known for her attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and friendly, approachable attitude.

When she is not balancing the books or managing day-to-day operations, you will find Heidi walking her dog on Mt. Tam, enjoying coastal living, and dreaming of a trip to the sun-drenched islands of Greece or the lush green hills of Ireland.

Heidi joined Seadrift in 2007.

Craig Thigpen — ARC Admin/Interactive Designer (part-time)

Craig first found his way to Stinson Beach for his sixteenth birthday, and the perfect afternoon he spent there left an impression that has lasted a lifetime. He was so taken by the place that he might say it "ruined" him—in the best possible way. These days, a part-time role with the Seadrift Association gives Craig a welcome excuse to make regular trips from his home in San Anselmo to his favorite stretch of coast, enjoying stunning views and the occasional heron sighting.

Though a true Bay Area native, born in San Francisco, Craig's childhood was a global affair. A year after his birth, his family moved to Brussels for his father’s job with Levi Strauss. There, he and his brothers attended French-speaking schools before the family relocated to London for two years. Craig eventually returned to the Bay Area, and he continues to enjoy life there with his wife Sarah, and their two grown sons who live in Berkeley and San Diego.

His favorite way to spend a day off is outdoors, whether on a beach, a trail, or the slopes, and he is currently pursuing a new hobby in woodworking. Among his top bucket list items are hiking the Camino Alto, diving the Great Barrier Reef, and traveling throughout Asia.

Craig Joined Seadrift in 2024.

Security Staff

Our security staff is dedicated to supporting the community's safety, and quality of life.

Bob Stevens — Security Chief

Bob has been a fixture in Stinson Beach since he and his family moved from Petaluma in 1967. His reputation as a local expert is built on a lifetime of deep community engagement. Bob's path to public service was set in motion by a pivotal event: as a young man, he arrived first on scene at an accident at Hagmaier Pond. That experience ignited his commitment to emergency preparedness, prompting him to become an EMT. He would go on to serve a distinguished 28-year career with the Stinson Beach Volunteer Fire Department. Bob is a pillar of the community.

A dedicated history buff, Bob hopes to one day fulfill his ultimate bucket list item: visiting the beaches of Normandy to better understand the U.S. role in the end of World War II.

Bob joined Seadrift in 1999.

Tommye Jarvis — Security Officer (retired)

Tommye’s story is one of a community heart. Born in Daly City, she remembers her birthplace as a friendly small town before a lifetime of adventure took her to the Philippines, where she was raised. Those international experiences have given her a rich trove of stories to share.

After moving to Stinson Beach, Tommye raised her family here and became deeply embedded in the community. She proudly served a distinguished 30+ year career with the Stinson Beach Volunteer Fire Department, first as an EMT and later as an Office Manager. A constant thread throughout her life is her love for people, which is what she enjoys most about her current work at Seadrift. She particularly appreciates the genuine interest and care she shares with colleagues and homeowners alike.

When she's not at work, Tommye savors the small luxuries that a busy week doesn't always allow for. She loves taking time for a relaxing hair wash and enjoying a quiet lunch with family and friends.

Tommye joined Seadrift in 2001 and retired in September, 2025.

Alex Kovach — Security Officer

Alex’s roots in the Bay Area run deep. Born in San Francisco, a city he still adores, he first rolled into Stinson Beach in 1961—in classic style, by Volkswagen Beetle. This sense of adventure and wide-ranging experience has defined his entire career.

Alex brings a remarkably diverse skill set to Seadrift, with a professional background spanning everything from technology to facilities maintenance and wastewater operations. One of the most fascinating chapters of his life was his time as a seaman with the United States Coast Guard, where he served as a lighthouse keeper at the historic Pt Bonita Lighthouse. The third lighthouse built on the West Coast, it has a storied history of guiding ships through the treacherous Golden Gate straits.

Alex’s favorite part of the job is the people he works with and serves, a testament to his community-focused spirit. Though he’s lived a life of local adventure, his next big goal is an international one: a bucket list trip to Hungary to explore his family roots.

Alex joined Seadrift in 2023.

Steve Johnson — Part-time Security Officer

Steve joined Seadrift in 1999.

Jeff Morrison — Part-time Security Officer

Jeff’s journey began in "America’s Hometown," Plymouth, Massachusetts - he was born on Plymouth Plantation. After living in Cleveland, Ohio, he made the move to Stinson Beach in 1991. Jeff is fluent in both Spanish and English, a skill that makes him a true asset to Seadrift. When he's not working, his passion is music—he's a singer and is currently tackling a bucket list item: learning to play the accordion. Jeff is a hard worker; when asked about a favorite activity on his day off, he's known to be stumped because he simply doesn't seem to have them.

Jeff joined Seadrift in 2011.

Leslie Melendy — On Call Security Officer and Office Support

Leslie moved from faraway Bolinas to join her husband for a life together in Stinson. She is a 4th generation Marin County native. Born in Greenbrae and subsequently living in San Anselmo, Leslie remembers a much smaller, more humble Marin County of old. Leslie’s entire career has been focused on customer service, and based on that and upon meeting her, you know she is a people person. What Leslie  especially likes about working at Seadrift is her relationship with her colleagues, and the opportunity to meet new home owners, broadening her relationship with the community. On her days off, she loves hiking the trails of Marin, and spending time with her beloved family.

Leslie joined Seadrift in 2018.

Dyer Grote

Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, Dyer began her academic journey at Southern Methodist University, earning a B.A. in English and Advertising in 1987. She continued her education at Xavier University, receiving a Master's in Education in 1990. After a cross-country bicycle trip with a college friend, she moved to San Francisco in 1990 and later settled in Marin County in 1997 with her husband, Rob Edington, where they raised their three children.

Dyer has dedicated her career to teaching in underserved communities, a passion she continues today at a school in Marin City. Her family's deep connection to the coast led them to purchase a home in Seadrift in 2014, after years of renting in the area. It was there that her children honed their skills in surfing and participated in junior guards at Stinson Beach. Dyer finds her "happy place" in Seadrift, where she enjoys a variety of activities, including paddleboarding, pickleball, hiking, and late-night lagoon swims with a close-knit group of friends.

Larry is a seasoned leader with more than four decades of management consulting experience, specializing in guiding global companies through complex system implementations. His career spans major consulting groups like Accenture, Cap Gemini, and The Gartner Group, where he worked with industry giants such as Apple, BMW, Cisco, and Dell. Today, Larry channels his expertise into advising start-ups on strategic planning, IT infrastructure, operations, and team coaching. He is involved in Ancient Organics, a company dedicated to creating organic agricultural inoculants that provide health benefits to soil and plants, thereby reducing the need for chemical fertilizers. Dick Okada

Dick grew up in New York and began his career as a lawyer specializing in commercial finance there, before moving to San Francisco in the 1980s.  Dick and his wife, Andrea Tofanelli, bought a plot of sand and built a house at 53 Dipsea in the early 1990s. Now that they are both retired from the practice of law, they split their time between Seadrift and San Francisco, trying to take advantage of both the peacefulness of Stinson and the energy of what the City has to offer.

Dick has served as Treasurer of the Association for the past several years, working with Jean, Heidi, and the Association’s Finance Committee and outside professionals to manage our finances responsibly while complying with the requirements of our governing documents and applicable law.

Amy Fitzpatrick

Amy’s relationship with Stinson started many years ago. She came out to Stinson Beach the summer of 1988 when she started working at the Parkside Café, where she worked all through college and on and off for the next 10 years. Amy met her husband, Dennis, at the Sand Dollar. They had their wedding reception at the Stinson Beach Community Center. They raised their kids, Skyler and Dermot, out here.

Amy served on the Stinson Beach Preschool and Stinson Beach Community Center boards for many years. She worked at Seadrift Realty and High One Properties. Amy’s father, Tim Nevin moved to Seadrift in 2003, and lived here until he passed away in October 2021. Dennis and Amy sold their house on the hill and moved down to Seadrift in 2014, and officially became part-time residents, now spending half their time in the city.

Amy has a great love for this community and has served on the Seadrift Board since May 2020. Except for Legal, Amy has been on every committee on the Seadrift Board and is currently the Secretary on the Executive Committee, serves on both Finance and Infrastructure Committees, and serves as Co-Chair of the Architectural Review Committee.

Cedric Chao

He led MoFo's international litigation and arbitration practice for 17 years, and then served as the U.S. head of the global international arbitration practice of DLA Piper. In 2019, Cedric left Big Law to sit as an arbitrator of international and domestic commercial disputes, and as an advisor to law firms and clients with cross-border disputes.

Cedric was named by California's legal newspaper, The Daily Journal, to its "Top 100 California Lawyers" list in 2018. The following year, The Daily Journal gave Cedric the prestigious "California Lawyer of the Year" award for International Arbitration. In addition to trial court and arbitration advocacy, Cedric has argued 20 times in the US appellate courts. Cedric is a graduate of Stanford University and Harvard Law School.

Cedric joined the Board in 2024, and was immediately confronted with issues of sea-level-rise regulatory impacts on Seadrift as Chair of the Legal Committee. He continues to navigate these complex issues with the support of the Legal Committee, contributing to the future of Seadrift.

Cedric's spouse, Margaret Fujioka, sits as an Alameda County Superior Court criminal trial judge in Oakland. Cedric and Margaret have two children, one a lawyer and the second an architect. After renting at Seadrift for many years, they built a home here for their family. There is more to enjoy these days, as they welcomed their first grandchild to the world in May 2025.

Now a full-time oceanfront resident, she and her children and soon-to-be ten grandchildren care deeply about preserving our idyllic surroundings in Stinson and Seadrift and ensuring its continued enjoyment.

Vicki spent decades in the family wine business in Sonoma, which included the construction and operation of Viansa Winery. Although she is retired now, she still has ownership and limited involvement in Highway 12 Winery in Sonoma.
